How much does it cost to use lonelyplanet.tv?
Nada, nothing, nix - it's absolutely free.
Are there any restrictions about what I can post on the
site?
Yes. You can’t post anything that is offensive (including pornography), illegal or
which infringes any person’s privacy. You can’t post video that contains someone
else’s copyright material (unless you have their permission) and you should be
careful about featuring any person without their permission. You might want to
think twice before posting that video of you and your friends improvising with a
recorder and drum set, but that’s your business. The Lonelyplanet.tv
User Terms
have more details on what you shouldn’t include in your video, including details
on your use of music and including footage of people, places and art.
Do I have to have a certain browser or system to use
lonelyplanet.tv?
lonelyplanet.tv works in any browser and on any system (Windows PC, Mac,
whatever).The only requirement is that you have
Adobe Flash Player 8 or higher on your system.
What can I do on the site?
It's all at your fingertips. You can look at videos on the public site.
Become a member and you can upload your own videos and share them with whoever
you want. You can sort your videos by topics, check out clips on the same topic,
comment on clips and rate them. You got the power.
Do you support dial-up connections via analog modems?
It's not a great idea to use dial-up connections for viewing video on
lonelyplanet.tv. We recommend a broadband connection such as DSL or cable modem
with at least 1.5Mbps downstream and 384Kbps upstream.
How much disk space do I have available and how is it calculated?
We give you a whopping 5GB of storage for you clips. It’s calculated by the
size of the files you upload.
Upload and Video Support
How do I upload videos to lonelyplanet.tv?
You’re a registered member, right? OK, there are 3 ways to upload content to
lonelyplanet.tv:
Web Upload - This is the most
common way to upload content onto lonelyplanet.tv. Once you are logged in
click on Upload from the top navigation bar. Web Upload will be the default
selection for uploading. You can select up to five files to upload at a
time. Click the Browse button to find the file on your local computer. When
you’re finished selecting files just click the Upload button.
Mobile Phone Upload - This feature
allows you to send video from your mobile phone to your lonelyplanet.tv
account. Click on Upload from the top navigation bar, then click on Mobile
Phone Upload. Follow the directions for creating an email address that you
will send videos to from your phone. You can set Optional Attributes such as
Title, Description and Who Can See. You can also use standard email
applications like Outlook for this method.
Webcam Capture - This allows you to
use your webcam to record videos and upload them to lonelyplanet.tv. No
need to capture and save to your local computer then upload - just capture
directly to lonelyplanet.tv. A one-step process - nifty, huh?
Is there a size limit on the files I upload?
We currently have a file limit of 100MB, but we don’t have a limit on length.
It’s true that longer clips are generally larger in size, but 100MB is pretty
big.
What file type does lonelyplanet.tv support?
We support a wide range of video types: digital camera, camcorders, mobile
phones. We support WMV, MOV, AVI , MPG, 3GP and 3GPP2.
What video format gives the best quality?
We recommend MPEG-4 (QuickTime, DivX, XviD) the frame size 320x240 and MP3
audio.
Can I share videos with others?
Sure. To email a video while you’re watching it, click on the Email this
Video link below the name of the user who uploaded it. Or, when viewing a list
of videos, check the box in next to the videos you want to email then select
the Email link on the left hand side of the screen.
I don’t want to email videos. Is there another way?
Yep, and it's sooo simple. Just give
your friends the www.lonelyplanet.tv URL, along with your
username (like this: www. lonelyplanet.tv/username), and they'll be able to go
straight to your page
Can I download videos from lonelyplanet.tv?
Right now, you can't. We'll keep you posted.
Webcam
Which Webcam models does lonelyplanet.tv support?
We work with most name-brand webcams. We did extensive testing with Logitech,
Creative Labs and Apple webcams and others. Hell, one of our developers tried a
webcam company called Dynex and it worked as well. You can visit the
Adobe's Camera Compatibility Matrix Page and review a list of supported
cameras, but the page is a little outdated. If you have problems recording or
connecting make sure you have the latest drivers from your webcam manufacturer.

You click on the Forgot your Password? button on the
Login page and we send an email to the email address in your profile.
What if I want to change my password?
Go to the
My Profile page and change that sucker.
How do I change my profile or screen name?
You go to the
My Profile page and make whatever changes you like! It's your profile,
right?
